A three-day, two-night retreat set in a Balinese village, with daily yoga, meditation and cultural activities surrounded by tropical gardens and mountain views.

The program blends vinyasa and hatha yoga, pranayama and meditation with village walks, a traditional Melukat water purification ceremony, Balinese cooking and dance. Accommodation is in air-conditioned bungalows with porches overlooking the jungle, and meals are homemade Balinese — regular, vegetarian or vegan.

All sessions are optional. The pace suits beginners and solo travellers looking for a short reset, as well as anyone wanting to experience rural Balinese culture at close range.

The Retreat Experience

The retreat unfolds in a quiet village setting, away from the busier parts of Bali. Mornings open with a vinyasa or hatha class and meditation on the yoga deck, followed by a homemade Balinese breakfast overlooking the garden. Afternoons rotate between a second yoga session, a village walk, a cultural workshop or a complimentary spa treatment. The rhythm is gentle: two practices a day at most, with long breaks in between for rest, a dip in the pool or time on your porch.

Teachers Adi, Teddi and Eli lead the practices, drawing from traditional Balinese Watukaru yoga, Ashtanga and Vinyasa Flow, as well as Balinese healing meditation and pranayama. Classes stay accessible — Teddi is known for a light-hearted, joke-filled approach that puts beginners at ease — and everything on the schedule is optional. If you want to sleep in, skip a session or spend an afternoon reading in the garden, that is the retreat working as intended.

Cultural activities are woven through the stay rather than bolted on. You might make Balinese Hindu offerings with a local teacher, learn a traditional dance, cook with ingredients from the village gardens, or take part in a Melukat water purification ceremony — a ritual that the local community has practised for generations. Meals are served family-style in the garden: aromatic vegetable curries, coconut soups, tropical fruit, rice-based dishes and fresh juices, prepared on site.

The space around the bungalows is part of the experience: tropical gardens, the sound of the village, mountain views on clear mornings. It is a setting that makes it easy to slow down without needing to fill every hour.

Meet your teachers

AD

AdiTeacher

Adi specialises in the Watukaru yoga tradition, Balinese healing meditation, yoga therapy, chakra opening, pranayama and Balinese Pencak Silat martial arts. A disciple of the ninth generation of Perguruan Seruling Dewata — one of Bali's oldest spiritual ashrams — he has practised Traditional Balinese Watukaru Yoga for three decades and is dedicated to its conservation and teaching. He has developed his own system of yoga therapy focused on immunity and holistic healing.

TE

TeddiTeacher

Putu Teddi came to yoga as a way to prevent injury while cycling, and to manage the stress of a finance career at a bank. He began with Ashtanga yoga and deepened his practice through self-inquiry and study at local ashrams. He eventually left banking to teach full-time, and now focuses on helping guests unwind from busy lives and making beginners feel welcome. His classes are known for a light-hearted tone and plenty of jokes.

EL

EliTeacher

Born and raised in Bali, Eli has practised yoga and alternative healing for over a decade. She began with Hatha Yoga before connecting with Vinyasa Flow, where asanas are linked through the breath for a balancing effect. She has trained with both Balinese and Indian teachers in yoga, meditation and energy movement, and is drawn to what she calls 'inner yoga' — the awareness of the connection between mind and body.
