A three-day stay in a bamboo eco-sanctuary beside a river in West Bali, blending daily yoga, sound healing, waterfall visits and Balinese cultural activities. Mornings open with yoga and meditation; afternoons move between cooking classes, Tai Chi, trekking and river swims; evenings close with a sound healing session using traditional instruments.

The retreat is hosted at an ashram that teaches Traditional Balinese Watukaru Yoga, Tai Chi and meditation. Accommodation is in a private bamboo room with garden views, and all meals are vegetarian or vegan, sourced locally and prepared on site. Suitable for anyone looking to step away from routine, switch off from screens, and spend a few days close to nature.

The Retreat Experience

Days here follow a slow, deliberate rhythm. Mornings begin on the yoga platform with a gentle flow and meditation, the river audible below the trees. Breakfast is a shared vegetarian table — fruit, grains, fresh juices — before a long midday stretch of self-time. This is the retreat's quiet centre: hours for journaling, reading, walking the grounds, or simply sitting with the sounds of the jungle. A digital detox is encouraged, and the staff will gift you a small surprise if you manage the full three days screen-free.

Afternoons shift outward. The cultural programme rotates daily and you pick what appeals — a Balinese cooking class, a trek through nearby rice terraces, a session making canang sari offering baskets, or a trip to a local waterfall for a swim in cold river water. Tai Chi and martial arts sessions are led by Master Ky, who has taught at the ashram for over twenty years and draws students from overseas for his Traditional Balinese Watukaru lineage.

Evenings belong to sound. Ayu Indra leads a therapeutic sound healing journey using traditional instruments, working with vibration and frequency to guide the body into deep rest. The session can be moved to another time slot if needed — the schedule stays flexible around what you need on the day.

A one-hour Balinese massage is included each day of your stay, and the kitchen prepares three vegetarian or vegan meals daily from locally sourced ingredients. The venue is simple by design: bamboo architecture, open-air spaces, no air conditioning, no pool. Lizards on the ceiling are part of the deal. If you are looking for luxury resort facilities, this is not the right fit — but if you want a few days where the only agenda is rest, nature and honest practice, the sanctuary holds that space well.

Accommodation

Private Bamboo Room

A private room for one person in an animal-inspired bamboo villa, set among tropical gardens beside the river. The room has an ensuite bathroom with shower, fan, desk, wardrobe and a private balcony overlooking the greenery. The open-space design keeps you close to the sounds and air of the jungle.

There is no air conditioning — rooms are cooled by fan and the natural river breeze, in line with the venue's detox-focused, eco-conscious approach. There is no pool on site. The room is priced for one person; couples should enquire for a shared rate.

Food & meals

Three meals a day are included — breakfast, lunch and dinner — all vegetarian or vegan, made from scratch on site using locally sourced ingredients. The kitchen treats food as medicinal nourishment, designed to cleanse and replenish. Water, tea, coffee and detox water are available throughout the day.

If you have dietary requirements or allergies, let the team know before you arrive and they will accommodate where possible.

About the venue

The retreat is hosted at an eco-sanctuary in West Bali, built entirely from bamboo using a biomimicry design approach — furniture and structures inspired by, sourced from, and shaped by the natural world. The property sits beside a flowing river, surrounded by tropical rainforest, with seven unique bamboo houses forming the accommodation and practice spaces.

The venue was founded in 2017, following the Mount Agung volcanic eruption, as an initiative to train local communities in bamboo architecture and building skills. Many of those trainees are now respected specialists in Indonesia's bamboo construction field, and their handcrafted work is visible throughout the property.

This is a simple, nature-forward space — no air conditioning, no pool, open-air living. It is the first fully bamboo-built hospitality provider in Bali, and it runs on a commitment to protecting the surrounding river, jungle and greenery.

Location

The sanctuary is in Samsam, Kerambitan district, Tabanan regency, in the quieter western side of Bali. It is set beside a river and surrounded by tropical rainforest, well away from the busier tourist areas of the south.

Kelecung Beach is approximately 11 km away, Taman Ayun Temple around 13 km, and Ngurah Rai International Airport approximately 37 km. Airport pickup is included with the retreat.

Highlights
