Nine days on Bali's quieter northern coast, built around daily yoga, Balinese massage, and a full programme of local experiences — from dolphin-watching at sunrise to a purification ceremony at a holy fountain. Two 60-minute classes a day, a mix of Hatha and Vinyasa, tailored to every level including complete beginners.

The resort sits on a black-sand beach in Lovina, away from the island's busier south. Most days blend practice with time out in the landscape: waterfalls, rice plantations, snorkelling, cycling through villages. You return to a thatched-roof villa, a fruit basket in the room, and dinners by the sea.

The Retreat Experience

North Bali sets a different pace. Lovina is a string of coastal villages rather than a resort strip — the beach is dark volcanic sand, the mornings are warm but not oppressive, and the daily rhythm of offerings and prayer is part of the backdrop rather than a performance. This retreat leans into that pace.

Your anchor each day is two yoga sessions in an open-air shala facing the sea. The teaching is Hatha with Vinyasa touches, personalised to the group — if most guests are new to yoga, the classes meet them there. Between sessions, the programme pulls you out into the region: a sunrise boat trip to watch dolphins off the coast, snorkelling at Lovina Beach, a cycle through Pemaron village, a walk to Munduk waterfall with lunch at a coffee plantation. One day includes a Balinese cooking class that starts with a visit to a local market.

The spiritual side is lived rather than taught. You will make canang — daily offerings — alongside Balinese staff, visit a meditation centre, and take part in a purification ceremony at the Sudhamala holy fountain in Singaraja, led by a priest. None of it is compulsory, but it is there for those who want it.

Rest is structured in. A Balinese massage and a warm-stone massage at Jaya Spa are woven into the week, along with the slow hours that open up between activities — by the pool, on your verandah, at the seafood grill with the ocean in front of you. Most guests leave having practised yoga daily for over a week, swum in the sea, eaten food they watched being cooked, and stepped well outside the usual shape of a holiday.

Kadek KusmayaniTeacher

Kadek is a 200-hour certified teacher whose classes blend Hatha with touches of Vinyasa. She teaches twice daily on the retreat, tailoring each session to the group — many of her guests are new to yoga, and her classes are a careful introduction to the practice.

She came to teaching from spa therapy, wanting to pass on good energy to her clients, and also worked with yoga to address her own breathing difficulties. That background shows in a genuine concern for guests' wellbeing. She is known for her warmth, her humour, and a fondness for partner yoga.

Location

Lovina is a stretch of coastal villages on Bali's northwestern coast — Kaliasem, Kalibukbuk, Anturan, and Tukad Mungga. The beach is dark volcanic sand rather than the white sand of the south, and the pace is noticeably quieter.

The retreat is within easy reach of Singaraja, Bali's former colonial capital, and the highland village of Munduk with its waterfalls and coffee plantations. Nearby points of interest include Banjar village, known for its hot springs, and the historical city of Singaraja.

About the venue
